DMT

Substance
DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) is a naturally occurring psychedelic found in plants, animals, and humans, but is usually offered in extracted form as a crystalline powder. In certain consumption methods (ayahuasca and changa), DMT is combined with an MAOI.

Forms of appearance
Resin, powder, or tarry mass; crystalline substance. Decoction of DMT-containing and MAO-inhibiting plants (ayahuasca); smokable herbal mixture of DMT and MAO inhibitors (changa).
Substance groups
Consumption patterns
DMT is smoked, snuffed, and especially swallowed in the form of ayahuasca.
dosage
DMT : 10–max. 60 mg smoked (must be vaporized) [1] , 20–50 mg snorted;
Changa : Dosage depends on the mixing ratio of 'DMT-herb mixture' (can be smoked in a bong or as a joint);
Ayahuasca : Dosage depends on the preparation method and the alkaloid content of the plants.
Effect
When DMT is smoked or snorted, the onset of effects is usually perceived as overwhelming in terms of speed and intensity [1] . With all forms of consumption, euphoric feelings can occur, as well as an altered, greatly slowed perception of time. Immersion in highly bizarre worlds, separation of body and mind, ego dissolution, and a feeling of oneness with matter are often experienced. Physical effects include increased blood pressure and pulse, as well as dilated pupils.
Onset of action
Smoked after a few seconds, snorted after a few minutes, swallowed (DMT) after 30–60 minutes.
Duration of effect
Smoked, the duration of action is approximately 10 minutes; snorted, up to 45 minutes; and swallowed, 4–8 hours. Combining DMT with an MAOI prolongs the duration of action.
Aftereffects
up to 8 hours
Risks and side effects
Since loss of control and anxiety are relatively common, DMT is not a party drug! Nausea and vomiting are the most frequent side effects, along with increased heart rate, slightly accelerated breathing, elevated blood pressure, dilated pupils, increased salivation, tremors, restlessness, headaches, and movement disorders. A feeling of weightlessness or falling is possible. The intense perceptual changes and the dissolution of one's own identity can be experienced as traumatic (a bad trip) by some users.
Long-term risks
Lasting impairments in self-perception and reality testing are possible. Latent vulnerable psychoses may also be triggered.
Safer Use
-
Don't take DMT if you're afraid of a strong psychedelic effect. Fear can increase the likelihood of a negative trip experience.
-
Do not consume DMT alone! Take it lying down, in a safe environment (not at parties) and together with experienced friends you trust.
-
Start with a low dose. Don't add more!
-
People with a family history of psychotic disorders should be extremely careful, as psychedelics can trigger latent psychoses.
-
Avoid reckless and ill-considered mixing of substances! Taking DMT with alcohol distorts its effects and can lead to extremely unpleasant side effects.
-
People with high blood pressure should not consume DMT.
-
Even if the high is only short-lived, do not underestimate the after-effects that can last for several hours (driving vehicles, etc.).
-
Take breaks from using drugs. After using, give yourself time and peace to process the trip.
-
Risk of confusion with 5-MeO-DMT (5-Methoxy-N,N-Dimethyltryptamine)! This substance would need to be dosed significantly lower.
